    I have a question please. When skiing steep, is it ok if the arms/upper body is at the same Direction that your skies? I mean, the upper body dont look straigh to the valley. (Min 1:28 ) Thanks so much

    • @section8ski
      @section8ski 6 місяців тому

      In most cases on the steeps it’s a good idea to lead the bottom half of the turn with the lower body, otherwise you put yourself in danger of the tails slipping out and tumbling backwards. Plus it will be quicker to move into the next turn. A good rule of thumb is for the upper body (shoulders & pelvis) to face the direction of momentum. In a very short turn on the steeps, that’s probably somewhere between where your skis are pointing and the fall line. Facing straight to the valley is probably too much seperation.

    I think youve confused centrifugal force with inertia. Neuton's first law of motion "an object at rest will stay at rest, as well as an object in motion will stay in motion, unless acted upon by an outside force." The same reason you lean in a car around a curve. Your body wants to continue going straight which is why you're pulled the other way.

    • @tobinleopkey1753
      @tobinleopkey1753 7 місяців тому

      Yes, centrifugal force is a fictitious force. It's essentially a way to describe inertia when travelling in an arc.

    A double black becomes a blue under two or three feet of untracked powder. There's nothing closer to flying except perhaps squirrel suits. And if the sun is at your back your shadow makes for a delightful feedback, an instantaneous, intense, aesthetic feeling. If I could put that feeling in a bottle I would save it to restore my spirit as I approach my last horizon.

    For those of you who wish to conserve energy and reduce leg fatigue keep your uphill leg as straight as possible and put all of your weight on it. This provides your downhill leg a moment of complete relaxation and maximal blood flow. This works on all surfaces except difficult conditions like those with large chunks of crud or thick wet snow. But in the case of untracked powder with the sun at your back it is very easy to accomplish and with the extra energy you may choose to skip lunch.

    I love it that you don't wear a helmet. I think they are totally overrated. Perhaps another tip, which you do perfectly, is to keep turning and keep the rhythm, as you have to be positive. One of the worst things you can do is turn and then traverse. Keep up the good work, love your skiing.

  • @JB91710

    These are the two hardest things for skiers to overcome. 1. Finding correct ski teaching. The world's instructors tell you what skiing looks and feels like while using complicated and meaningless words instead of how to position your upper body and change your weight and balance to allow the skis to turn and make you look and feel like that. That's not teaching, it's Show with no Tell. 2. Having the "Time" to practice Balancing and Moving on one foot after the other which is what ski need from you. A good way to get that experience is right at home on roller or inline skates. Balancing while moving! Then you can have an unlimited amount of practice. Yes, the moves and feelings are exactly like skiing.

  • @JB91710
    @JB91710 Рік тому

    Actually, you lead a turn by looking, facing and leaning down the hill and during this slight upper body rotation, you rotate your pelvis and then your knees. As you take your weight off your downhill foot to balance on your uphill foot, you face down the hill and think of your kneecaps as headlights illuminating your path down the hill. 0:30 When you start a turn as I described above, your shins will be pressed into the tongue of your boots. As the skis continue to make the turn, your knees are still pressing into the tongue and you just happen to be leaning them towards the woods at the end of the turn, but you don't have to think about it. You just have to position yourself correctly to start the turn and go for a ride. At the start of the turn face down the hill, point your knees down the hill and that's it. The skis make you face across the slope, you don't think about facing across the slope. Like right here. 0:10

    1:00 A turn starts from your face down, not from your feet up!!! Just because you have ski on your feet, doesn't mean turns start there. They Finish there! 1:10 The skiing here is a demonstration of what I say below. Notice how this turn originates from the head down, not from the feet up. The entire upper body falls down the hill while the skis continue across the hill which creates the new leg angle for the weight change to the right foot. The pillow demonstration is incomplete. You HAVE to get off that left foot and then slide your entire upper body over to the pillow. In this demonstration, you will end up instantly applying your weight to the inside ski where you shouldn't be. There has to be a distinct change of weight from your downhill to uphill foot before you change your upper body position to start the next turn. This is the anatomically correct way to think about this. Imagine there is a stool to your right, and you want to rest your right cheek on the edge of that stool. Take your weight off your right foot, lift your right cheek and slide it over to the edge of that right stool. By lifting your cheek, you are forcing your upper body to stay vertical so you can be balanced on your left foot. By sliding your cheek over to the stool, you are creating the leg angle that rolls your left ski over onto the inside edge. The farther you slide your cheek over, the steeper the leg angle and the harder you will be on edge allowing the skis to bend to its maximum. During this maneuver, you have to keep pressure against the tongue of your boots, so your weight is on the tips of your skis. You help this to happen by leaning and facing your upper body down the hill at the start of the turn.

      I more or less agree with this; it's perhaps a matter of what resonates most with the student. I would affirm that the eyes lead the body (as the eye-brain connection is strong) from an intent perspective. There are, of course, other analogs to the stool; certainly a shift from the downhill foot to the new outside foot/leg is critical. Harald Harb and Deb Armstrong have a lot of videos on that.

    • @JB91710
      @JB91710 Рік тому

      @@Osnosis Neither one of them can put that into a teaching method that makes any sense. Just talking about it or explaining what it looks and feels like isn't teaching. They have a big following solely due to their personalities and videography, not their ability to teach. "Tipping the knees?" "Rolling the ankles over?" That's just as bad as telling people to Just lean over without adding the weight change. I'll tell you what! Post a link to any of their videos where you think they are teaching correctly, and I will post my critique here. I can't post it on their videos because they are incapable of defending their methods, so they blocked me rather than debate me.
